Screen Print Color Separations

The importance to start right from the beginning

Tired of taking the guess? or even paying full rates to creative people for just color separations? what about wasted screens and films for lack of registration or bleed between the colors? worst of all is the project delay and have to pay again to re-do the whole thing. We can provide with precise color separations by providing absolute attention to minor details and eliminating over ink deposits and hours of setups in the shop.

The 5 kinds of Color Separations

Vector and Raster graphics

1. Vector

Spot Color Separation | Vector

Colors are isolated from each other (knocked out), a graphic can contain the same color in different  places in the image but they are still isolated, some times a graphic has Gradients that blend from one color to another but they are still separated from each-other. Spot color separation is a process and not an ink type.

2. Raster

Spot Color Separation | Raster

Colors are isolated from each other (knocked out), a graphic can contain the same color in different  places in the image but they are still isolated, in this case graphics have some basic and advanced Gradients that blend from one color to another but they are still separated from each-other. Gradients are separated in large parts of the image. Spot color separation is a process and not an ink type.

3. Index

Spot Color Separation | Index

indexed color is a technique to manage digital images’ colors in a limited fashion, It is a form of vector quantization compression.

4. Process CMYK

Process Color Separation | Process CMYK

The 4 Color Process works using the CMYK channels, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black, these colors are combined in the printing process by using different half tones sizes, you can achieve thousands of colors using this process. This technique is commonly used in offset printing. CMYK Inks are transparent and it can only be printed on white backgrounds.

Output Settings

1. Yellow – 75° screen angle
2. Magenta – 45° screen angle
3. Cyan – 15° screen angle
4. Black – 75° screen angle

5. Highlight white – 15° screen angle
6. Spot colors – 15° screen angle

5. Simulation

Spot Color Separation | Simulation

This process is mostly used to print fine art or photorealistic images that contains hundreds of colors. This process uses oil based and water based inks, also used in images that has colors in very small areas in the graphic like a pixel 5 inches apart from another pixel of the same color.

Due to the square dot pattern already embedded in the screens, setup output separations with elliptical dots at 55-65 lpi and 45°angle for all inks is one of the best results.
